Description of Work/Assignment: For this project, we were required to find a partner. We were then put together with another pair, and we became a group of 5 since there was one additional person. Together we were assigned to create a great empire that consisted of 5 other different ancient empires and take one or multiple things from each. Such as the government, economic system, military, etc. By the end of this, we created the final empire that was based in Italy.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? Out of all the 21st-century skills, Global Awareness had to fit this project the most. We researched a lot, not just our own empire but as well as each other. We made sure we had a very clear understanding of the cultural and economical situation of every empire to make sure everything was correct. We had thought of several ways we can take the best out of each empire so that we can create our own and complete the assignment. By the end of this project, we each delivered our final presentation to one member from the other groups and were successfully able to show off our hard work. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am most proud of how we were all able to work together and agree on most things. We rarely ever argued throughout this whole project. We all agreed on most things and even if we didn’t, we found solutions to ways we can solve the problem instead of arguing. I think this group was perfect, we all got along really well, and if I was comfortable enough stepping out of my comfort zone around my group. Although I am proud of my slide, I am even more proud of my group members. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? Using my technology skills, I was able to improve my global awareness skills by researching all about the Ottoman Empire, learning more about it, creating a presentation just from my empire, and presenting it to my classmates to spread more awareness. I memorized all the information. I also had to learn about different empires, because my team members were able to research and also deliver a presentation to spread more information. What was most difficult about completing this task? The actual presentation itself. I was very thankful when we were told we wouldn’t have to present in front of the whole class, but rather in groups that had one member from each group. I liked this a lot better and I was calmer. But for some reason I was still sweating and felt like I was turning red, maybe I was still a bit nervous. This was the difficult part of the whole project for me. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? If I were to start over, I would pay more attention to my slides, information, reading my article, and overall everything. One of my group members pointed out that several important pieces of information were missing from my slide. I read the article once again more carefully and realized I did miss a lot of useful information. Next time I know to read things more carefully and be giving everything and everyone my full attention. How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? In the past, while I was attending middle, more specifically in my 8th-grade year. We learn of all the different kinds of empires in Asia. This has opened my eyes to new empires I never knew about, in Middle Eastern and Southeast Asia. How can you apply this to future learning? It was super fun! I hopefully will have a similar project in the future that is also just fun and I’ll be learning at the same time. If not I can use it in the future as a fun way for kids to do their homework/projects while still having the benefit of learning. |
